For fans of dance, nothing quite equals the moment when great dancers take to the stage and set their bodies into motion. The sight of the Latin-tinged Miami City Ballet sparked that frisson of excitement in our inaugural season of 1999. So did the loose-and-lithe Grupo Corpo, shimmying to samba at our most recent show in 2020. Sheer love of the art form shines forth in Aspen Santa Fe Ballet Presents, one of the nation’s leading dance-only presentation series. As soon as safely possible, we’ll return to our home theaters—Aspen District Theatre in Aspen and The Lensic in Santa Fe—to reignite our much-missed live-dance performance series.
Invitations to world-class dance companies—from across the U.S. and abroad—provide our communities with year-round access to the best the dance world has to offer. A steady dance diet of ballet, modern dance, jazz and indigenous forms has built a loyal and discerning audience. We strive to preserve this long tradition of live performance that celebrates the human spirit and offers the joy and exhilaration of dance at its best.
Synergies between ASFB Presents and other components of ASFB’s dance umbrella position our communities for deeper involvement with these guest artists. Master classes, learning opportunities, talk-backs and lectures are envisioned through our School and Outreach programs. The ASFB Fund for Innovation in Dance, through its commissioning arm, can connect burgeoning choreographers with dance companies. It can also facilitate dance residencies.
A deep commitment to cultural and aesthetic diversity is burnished in our roster of more than fifty stellar global dance companies presented since 1999: Alonzo King Lines Ballet, Alvin Ailey II, Ballet West, Compagnie Hervé Koubi, Compagnie Marie Chouinard, Complexions Contemporary Ballet, Diavolo Dance Theatre, Grupo Corpo, Hong Kong Ballet, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, Joffrey Ballet, Les Ballets Jazz de Montréal, Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo, Miami City Ballet, MOMIX, Parsons Dance, Paul Taylor Dance Company, Pilobolus, Sydney Dance Company, and Twyla Tharp Dance.
